Summary:
Shakespeare in Love follows the famous playwright William Shakespeare, played by Joseph Fiennes and his attempts to finish his play Romeo and Juliet. He is incredibly romantic and artistic and is frustrated at the fact that he is stumped in his attempt to finish his play until he finds his muse, Viola De Lesseps played by Gwyneth Paltrow. Paltrow?s character is a woman who is not allowed to be an actor in the 16th century as all actors must be male. She is able to hide her identity, however so that she can continue seeing William and act in his play.
Why You Should See This Movie:
True movie lovers should always see movies that do well in the academy awards, and Shakespeare in Love is one of those (Best Picture, Best Actress ? Gwyneth Paltrow). The acting is definitely the best part of this film with quality performances turned in by Paltrow, Fiennes, as well as Geoffrey Rush. The sets are believable and filming is superb. The story itself is interesting and keeps you interested for the most part.
Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
The movie does tend to drag in multiple places where the action slows to a snails pace. These spots tend to center around parts when the above mentioned actors are not the focus.
Conclusion:
Shakespeare in Love is a worthwhile film that is dominated by great acting performances, although the story does seem to bog down in multiple spots leaving you looking at your watch too often.
