Review:
By Ute
Summary:
The third installment of the Harry Potter movies features probably the most popular Potter story. The Prisoner of Azkaban also features a departure from the director of the first two films. In this story Harry finds out early in the movie that a terrible wizard named Sirius Black has escaped the impenetrable prison of Azkaban. Harry is warned that Sirius? reason for escaping is to kill Harry. Ron and Hermione return to help Harry at Hogwarts and experience more twists and turns during their third year of wizard school.
Why You Should See This Movie:
Fans of Harry Potter will not be disappointed with the latest film adaptation of JK Rowlings novels. The familiar actors from the first two movies return with the addition of a couple of new roles. Gary Oldman stars as Sirius Black and David Thewlis as Professor Lupin, the latest wizard attempting to succeed as the Defense against the Dark arts teacher. The young actors portraying Harry, Ron and Hermione are truly growing up on screen and their performances continue to improve. Although making some changes in the details of the story, director Alfonso Cuaron, does a masterful job at hitting all of the major points in the book and providing intriguing transitions between scenes. This film definitely has a more artsy feel to it as opposed to the more children like first two movies. The running time of the film is a little over two hours, but I didn?t find myself looking at my watch at all. The computer effects constructed to portray things such as the transformation of Professor Lupin into a werewolf, the dreaded dementors, and the hippogriff Buckbeak are hardly noticeable and do not seem out of place in the least. The story is one of the strongest of the series and thus requires little else to make it a fabulous movie.
Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
The only reason I can think of not to see this movie is if you simply don?t like the Harry Potter series. This movie however is made to be not only the latest installment of the series but a well crafted and put together story that is an incredible stand alone movie.
Conclusion:
I felt like this movie was the best of the year so far and definitely should be seen by even the most casual movie fan. With top notch acting, effects and direction, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is definitely a must see in the theater.
