Review:

Summary:
King Arthur tells the story of the Roman withdrawal from the island of Great Britain in the 5 th Century and the struggle for power in England. The legend of King Arthur and his knights of the round table is a legend that most historians agree was a story with little accuracy with the exception of the actual existence of Arthur. It is difficult for historians to tell the story of Europe in the Dark Ages as a result of the poor development of civilization and record keeping and as mentioned before the legend of King Arthur is probably a story changed many times in its telling. With that in mind, this newest telling of the story is not historically inaccurate, it is merely another way to tell the tale.
Why You Should See This Movie:
First of all, the casting and acting performances in this film are flawless. Everyone in the film is excellent, but the choice for King Arthur as Clive Owen is perfect. Many of the simple close up shots of Owen?s face are so convincing that he is not only a leader, but one to be feared and trusted implicitly. The film is two and a half hours long but feels half that. It begins quickly and continues being interesting both during and in between the battle scenes. The story itself is very interesting in how the beginnings of England as a united country began. While it is possible that this story is not exactly correct, it seems as plausible as any other that can be told.
Why You Shouldn't See This Movie:
The only thing that held this film back from being classified in the same category as Braveheart was the film makers reluctance to allow the battle scenes to be realistic enough to warrant an R rating. A movie such as this is about powerful emotions, and intense fighting between groups of people risking their lives for their freedom. A story like that should not be told to a PG 13 rating. The battle scenes were interesting and engaging, but were obviously toned down in order to avoid the R rating.
Conclusion:
King Arthur is a great film with incredible acting performances that is definitely worth while to see on the big screen.
